Dear Family,
We also got to volunteer at the Golden
Olympics this Saturday. We got a call on Thursday morning I think it was and
this lady said President had promised her at pageant that the sisters and
elders in the Palmyra, Lyons and Canandaigua wards could help out at this Olympics
for the assisted living homes in the area. Ha ha we didn’t know anything about
it so we called President and he told us that he remembered talking to her. We had to get our shift switched at the sites,
but I’m so glad we did! It was so much fun! The Golden Olympics is just where a
bunch of the assisted care facilities get their residents together for a bunch
of games, lunch, music, etc. There were about 16 missionaries there and the
Elders helped push wheelchairs around while the other sisters helped cheer the
people on. Sister Adams and I got to do face painting and it was so much fun!
All those old people were SO CUTE and they just loved having us paint their
faces! We painted flowers and rainbows mostly and they were just so happy to
sit and talk to us for a while. We even were able to teach a few of them just
simple gospel principles as we talked to them and help strengthen them in that
way. I think it was really a good thing for us to do to show how service
oriented our church is. When we first got there, a bunch of the other
volunteers looked at us like we had the plague or something but at the end
after they saw how normal we are and that we were just trying to help out, they
really warmed up to us. I’m so glad we got to help out with it!
I had a cool experience in the car the other day too. We were driving home from contacting referrals up in Sodus and we were just listening to an EFY CD. A song called, "More" came on and it really hit me. It talks about giving more of ourselves to Christ every day, whether that is having more patience, more faith, more charity. I realized that there is always something more we can give the Savior, whether it's big or small, every day to help build our relationship with Him as well as build His kingdom here on Earth. It's just about us having the courage to examine ourselves and being humble enough to allow him to make our weaknesses strong. Yeah, that's often easier said than done, but it's what life's really all about, isn't it?
I love you all times a million! Thanks for
all of the love and support.
Love love love!
