Guess what I did this morning?! I went to the
TEMPLE!!! So awesome! I haven't been able to go since before I left on
my mission since the Provo Temple was closed while I was in the MTC. The
Palmyra Temple is sooo beautiful! It's really small but everything in
it is gorgeous. You probably know this, but right as you walk in the
temple to the recommend desk there is a clear window that looks out onto
the Sacred Grove. It's so neat to be able to look out and see where it
all began!
Anyway, this week has been a good week working at the sites. I've had
the chance to take a lot of families on tour with younger kids which has
been great. It's fun to be able to have them help tell the stories
based on what they've been learning in Primary. They get sooo into it!
There was one little girl this week that knew the stories so well too! I
told her she could be a missionary here and her face lit up and she
said, "I sure hope I can when I grow up!" Ha ha I made her pinky promise
me that she would keep reading her scriptures so if she is supposed to
go on a mission one day that she'll be ready. She was super cute.
Another reason why it's so fun to take families is it's a great
opportunity to allow the parents to teach their children and talk about
things they wouldn't have on their own. The sites are seriously just
such an awesome tool at reminding families of what is important.
We got to work at the Wayne County Fair for a few hours this week
too. Ha ha ha is pretty much all I can say about that experience. We had
a booth set up with a bunch of Mormon.org cards and copies of the Book
of Mormon and stuff. People would see our booth and avoid us like the
plague! ha ha it was really funny to watch actually. Hardly anyone would
actually stop and talk to us, so we just made sure to say hello with a
smile to everyone that passed by, regardless of whether they were
completely avoiding eye contact or not. ha ha. Who knows, maybe one day
when they are actually prepared to here the gospel they will remember
those two blonde missionaries that smiled at them at the fair one time.
ha ha
We also had Zone Conference this week where the Zone
Leaders, the Assistants, and President and Sister Christianson
instructed us. It's always a good day when we get to see President and
Sister Christianson! They seriously light up the room where ever they
go! A lot of it was about how to have more companionship unity and how
to plan better, but a lot of it was also about allowing your mission to
change you by becoming Christlike. We become Christlike by looking out
toward others instead of in toward ourselves and by remembering the
covenants we've made with Him. I want more than anything for my mission
to change me, and I have felt that happening a lot so far but I know I
have SUCH a long way to go. The time is so short too. I can't believe
I've almost been out 2 months already. It's going by so much faster than
I ever thought it would, but at the same time I just can't even imagine
my mission being over, so I won't ;-) Ha ha.
P-days are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and we can spend the time however we want
(before 10 a.m. is the regular morning program of studying except for
today when we were at the temple). Yes, we can go do fun things if we
have the miles on our car to do so. In a few weeks Sister Adams and I
will probably go into Rochester to the Museum of Fun. Ha ha the name
says it all!
As for the temple, we can go once per transfer. How
lucky am I? So many missionaries don't get to go at all their entire
mission!
As for the sites/proselyting ratio,
I'm not 100 percent sure how it works out. There are about 6-8 sisters
at a time that are full proselyting in areas that are too far to get to
the sites on a regular basis (aka Buffalo), but not all sisters will
spend time in the full proselyting areas. So I may or may not ever be
full proselyting. But as it gets colder, even if I'm still in a site
accessible area I will have a lot more area days, meaning we will have
the full day to proselyte. We will just have to see where Heavenly
Father puts me!
Ha ha anyway, times up! Hopefully I answered all of the questions. I
love you all so much! Thank you so much for all the support you show
me! Miss you times a billion!
Love,
