Dear Family,
How on earth is it already Thanksgiving? The time is
seriously flying by so fast! We've got a busy Thanksgiving day planned.
We are going around to ward members houses with the South sisters. Our
main event of a meal will be at the Grahams and we are so excited! I
seriously love the Grahams. They take such good care of us while we are
away from our families.
This week has been a pretty good week other than the fact that I got
sick :-( I swear, I've never been sick more often than on my mission!
Anyway, I started having a sore throat on about Wednesday but it wasn't a
big deal until Saturday when I lost my voice. I was still feeling fine
other than not having a voice until Sunday. I woke up and just felt
sooooo sick! I couldn't talk at all and I was coughing and had a runny
nose. It was terrible. Sister Adams sat me down after I got out of the
shower and told me that the South sisters were going to take our shift
at the BOMPS and that we were staying home so I could get better. I
really appreciated her looking out for me but I felt so bad missing a
day of work. I know it wasn't my fault I got sick, but I felt like I was
wasting Heavenly Father's time or something. Anyway, we just went to
stake conference and then Sister Christianson and Sister Searle (the
site director's wife) told me I had to stay home and sleep. I slept for
almost 5 hours straight and I feel soooo much better now! I can actually
talk! Ha ha. While we were at stake conference, Elder Fowler gave me a
blessing and Elder Stroud, Elder Erekson and Elder Houskeeper helped
out. It was really sweet to see how concerned all the other missionaries
were about me. Ha ha I must have looked really sick or something. It is
really nice to know that even though I'm not where Dad can give me a
blessing that there are other worthy priesthood holders around me to
help me out while I'm away from home.
As hard as it was to stay home on Sunday, I really know it was for
the best. I got right back to work yesterday and worked a shift at the
Hill. o help her and that I was feeling well enough
so we could be at the right place at the right time!
Anyway, last Thursday we had a specialized training at the Whitmer
Farm. President decided to have it there because otherwise most of the
elders would never make it to the Whitmer their entire missions. It was a
lot of fun. He told us about the church's Christmas Internet campaign.
They have launched a new section to Mormon.org that has to do with
Christmas. It's Mormon.org/Christmas. It's a way for everyone,
regardless of religion, to share their feelings about Christmas. They
will have free music to download, Christmas eCards to share, Bible
videos, etc. There will also be a section for people to request a
Christmas message to be delivered in their homes by missionaries,
requests to receive a Bible, and requests to chat. I have a feeling chat
is going to EXPLODE once the word gets out about this campaign. I
really think this is going to bring a lot of interest. We as
missionaries are being asked to prepare a Christmas message to share
with those who request it from Mormon.org as well as to share while we
are tracting. We are supposed to tell everyone about
Mormon.org/Christmas and get everyone we can, including members,
visiting it. Everyone should go check it out! It is up right now but all
of it will be launched on Nov. 26. Share it with everyone on your
Facebook throughout the month. I know through inspired campaigns like
this that the word is getting out about Christ and the restored gospel. I
really have a lot of faith that this is going to help us find a lot of
new investigators! I'm so excited about it!
Sister Adams and I are focusing a lot on finding new people to teach
this week. Like I said earlier, I really have a lot of faith in the
Christmas campaign. We pray all the time that we will find the people
that are being prepared to hear the message and that we will be able to
find families to teach. I know they are out there!
I'm running out of time, but Mom, I loved what you wrote in your
letter about scheduling time for activities that will allow you to come
to know Christ. I can't remember if I've told you all about this, but
there's a magnet on our fridge that says, "If you put time with God
before time for the things you want to do, you will always have time for
both. But if you put time for the things you want to do before time
with God, you will never have time for Him." It's so true! In John 17:3
it says, "And this is life eternal, that they might know tee the only
true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent." That's the whole
purpose of life is for us to come to know our Heavenly Father and Jesus
Christ! So thanks for what you wrote, Mom! And everyone, PLEASE put time
getting to know God and Christ first! It's really neat how when you
make that a priority, literally everything else in life falls into
place. I have such a strong testimony of scripture study and how that
invites the Spirit and allows you to come to know God and Christ, so
please always put forth the effort! You won't ever regret it!
Love you all times a billion!
Love,
Sister Butters
