Dear Family,
This past week has solidified the fact that by
serving a mission, I am in a bubble from the rest of the world. Fist of
all, the hurricane here wasn't much of a hurricane in this part of New
York. We had some high-ish winds and lost our power from 7:30 p.m.
Monday to 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, but there wasn't any mass destruction.
Here we were thinking the storm wasn't all it was hyped up to be until
Tuesday we went to dinner at the bishops and he told us that New York
City is practically under water?! And as for election stuff, we
obviously have no clue what's going on. I wonder how long it will take
for me to find out who won. Ha ha oh well, I like being in the NYRM
bubble ;-)
So daylight savings time in New York? I HATE IT!! It's seriously the
most terrible thing ever! It gets dark here at like 5:30 now! It's
insane! Apparently by the end of December it will be getting dark closer
to 4. Boo! Ha ha oh well, I'll get over it.
So this week has been a pretty good one. The sites have been super
slow as a result of the hurricane, so we've had a lot of time to chat on
Mormon.org, do online proselyting work and study study study! I started
reading "Jesus The Christ" this week during downtime at the sites and
during meal times. So far I really like it. It's pretty dense writing
and I have my dictionary handy, but I really like it. One of the senior
elders saw me reading it yesterday and told me that he reads it every
year before Christmas and that he guesses he better get started. He
reads it so fast! At the rate I'm reading it I'll be lucky to get it
done before my birthday! ha ha
On a happy note, we got to go to the temple on Wednesday with the
site missionaries. They had to split us in to two sessions, so since we
live closer than a lot of the other sisters to the temple, we went to
the 7:30 p.m. session. The temple is so awesome! It was a really neat
experience to look around the room and see that I knew and love
literally every person that was in the room with me. It was a little
slice of heaven! And what a great way to spend our Halloween.
Anyway, I'm about
out of time for this week. I feel like Heavenly Father is placing
investigators in our path that are stretching us Spiritually, and I'm so
grateful for the opportunity to grow. I know without a doubt that the
Spirit is with us every step of the way. Through the hard times and the
extremely happy ones, I LOVE being a missionary!
Love you all times a million! Thanks for all the love and support!
Love,
Sister Butters
