Have I ever mentioned how awesome it is to be a missionary? Just thought I'd say it again. :-)
Last
P-day we got to go on a tour of the museums here in Palmyra. They have
quite a few that are run by the Historic Palmyra group. Palmyra is known for
their coverlets (as in bed spreads) so we saw a bunch of antique
coverlets. It was pretty cool to hear the history of the town some more
too! They even have a part in one of the houses dedicated to the history
of the church in the area, which is a great sign of how the community
works with the church now.
We had Zone Leader Council at the mission home on Friday (on Alex
and Beck's 2nd birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought about them all day!)
and it was AWESOME! We rode there with the Searles thankfully because
when we left Wayne County it was blizzard conditions! We got there a bit
late but safely :) President and Sister Christianson are so awesome.
What a great
example of living in the moment! Zone Leader Council was focused on
having the faith to find those that are prepared. It's something I've
been trying to work on for a while, so I really appreciated the
training. It was an answer to prayers! I know I have tons to work on
still, but I learned a lot about how faith and patience are really
interconnected. I studied about it again this morning and read a
conference talk by Elder Marcus B. Nash. EVERYONE should read it! It is
so awesome! Study the footnotes too because it adds so much more to it
too! Here's a link to it: http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2012/10/by-faith-all-things-are-fulfilled?lang=eng
Read it! For reals! My favorite part is the story of
Ann Rowley (it's depicted in the movie "17 Miracles") where she and her
children were starving as part of the Willie and Martin Handcart
Company and she had prayed over and over for food to relieve her family.
One night she remembered some biscuits from the boat ride over so she
put them in a dutch oven and prayed that her family would feel filled
after eating them and when she opened the pot it was full of bread! The
reason I love that story is because that wasn't the first time she had
prayed for relief for her families hunger. She had been praying and
praying and praying. She could have lost faith and just thought,
"Heavenly Father obviously isn't listening so why should I pray?"
Instead she clung to her faith and realized that regardless of the
outcome, Heavenly Father would take care of her in the eternal
perspective. She was patient and didn't demand to know when relief or an
answer would come. That's why faith and patience are so interconnected!
I want to work hard on having more and more faith. It's a lifelong
process, that's for sure, but I know there is something each of us can
do every day to build that faith.
Jane, way to go on your member missionary work! I was so excited to
hear that your friends got baptized!!!! I've been telling everyone your
story of how it happened! I hope it was a really great day! Thanks for
being such a great example of simply opening your mouth, being a friend,
and sharing what you know! Way to go!!!!!!!
Anyway, I'm about out of time now. Thanks for all the love and
support! I love you all and miss you tons! Hope everything is going
well. Don't ever forget that it's all true! (Ha ha President always
closes his testimony with "It's all true!" so it's a mission catch
phrase but also the truth)
Love you!
