Dear Family,
Can you believe General
Conference?!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!??!!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously amazing, and not only because of the announcement made about
changing the missionary age!
Anyway, at the time the announcement was made we all FREAKED OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I seriously couldn't believe
it! Those of us listening had suddenly become old compared to all the people
that will soon be coming out into our mission. I am so excited to hear
about it though, especially because there will be TONS more sisters
willing to serve, which means more and more people will be hearing the
gospel! Ward members and the senior couples keep asking me if I'm upset
that the rule wasn't changed when I was 19, and I'm not really. I came
out right now for a reason. Maybe they need us "old fart" sisters out
here right now to help the new younger ones feel more comfortable and
ready to train more and more 19 year old sisters. Regardless, I'm so
happy to hear the announcement! Yay for more sister missionaries! I
would love to hear the statistic as to how many sisters start their
papers this week ha ha.
On Sunday we worked a shift through both sessions of General Conference.
It was a really cold day (it's been really rainy here) and we worked
with Elder and Sister Nielsen (just based on how the schedule worked
out, we worked with them 4 times last week! Crazy!) and they brought us
warm soup to eat while we were watching. How nice, huh? I missed quite a
bit of the first session by giving tours. I at least got to see parts
of President Eyring and Monson's talks (both seemed really good! I'll
have to try to watch those ones) and I got to hear Sister Burton's talk.
I loved how she talked about observing then serving. It's a great
reminder that I constantly need to be looking for ways to help people.
Sometimes I get distracted by doing missionary things like finding
scriptures and people to teach, but I need to focus more on observing to
find people to serve.
I got to watch almost all of the last session except for I think the
first talk (whoever that was?) I LOVED Elder Bednar's talk about the
difference between a testimony and conversion. It was like the talk we
keep watching out here called the "Character of Christ" in some ways. He
said something about a testimony being what you know to be true and
conversion being true to what you know by acting upon it. That's
something I've been thinking a lot about lately. I myself need to make
sure I'm more fully converted to the gospel each day, but I also need to
make sure I'm helping others do the same. Conversion comes through
being a more and more diligent disciple of Christ, which includes
ACTION! It's about working toward the point where everything that you
are and everything that you do is a reflection of the Savior. I have a
long way to go!
Something cool that I thought about doing (the Spirit prompted me)
is that at the beginning of every week I want to pull out my conference
notes and make a goal of something to work on that week. This week's
goal is observing and serving and praying for opportunities to serve.
Sorry this is really jumbled but I also loved Ann Dibb's talk about
"I'm a Mormon. I know it. I live it. I LOVE it!" I feel like one of the
purposes of these sites is to help members of the church capture that
very feeling. I'm totally going to talk about that on my tours whenever I
feel prompted to.
I love you all so much! Thank you for all of the love, support and prayers! Miss you tons!
Love,
Sister Butters
